This post was authored by Rosanne on Rosanne Austin.

We tend to think that safe is “smart.” But is it, really? Success or failure is often determined by our ability to SEE and SEIZE opportunities when they are presented to us. Doing the same old same old, because it’s “safe” rarely creates extraordinary results. Learn the real difference between smart and safe…and why “safe,” […]

Hey Gorgeous, if you want success on your fertility journey, you’ve got to have the mindset for it. It’s time to kick fear, negativity, doubt, shame, jealousy, and the whole clown car of low vibe fertility journey BS to the curb. I’m your host, Roseanne Austin, fertility mindset master, former prosecutor and recovering type A control freak perfectionist.

I use the power of mindset to get pregnant naturally and have my baby boy at 43. Despite years of fertility treatment failure, I help women across the globe beat the odds on their fertility journey. Just like I did get ready for a quick hit of confidence, joy, feminine, badassery, and loads of hell. Yes.

For your fertility journey. It’s time to get fearless, baby, fearlessly fertile. Let’s do this. Welcome to the Fearlessly Fertile podcast, episode 151, Smart Mama Move. Know the difference between smart and safe. Hey loves, oh man, I fucking love what we’re going to be talking about today. It is an incredibly important topic that I think gets glossed over and ignored, which I think is a particular tragedy and is why we’re going to unfuck it right now.

Do you have? As we sit here today, a practical understanding of the difference between smart and safe, because they aren’t necessarily the same and treating them like they are can sabotage your dreams. And the worst thing ever is you might not even see it until it’s too late. See? Mama’s got your back on this one.

So buckle up from the time that we are little kids Most of us have been conditioned that the quote unquote safe route is the smart route While this is true when we’re learning to walk and our parents are trying to keep us from falling out of a window or accidentally drinking Windex that equation is way too general and Frankly limiting for us as adults the utility of that blanket approach becomes obsolete Not to mention, the need to live in constant fear goes away once we have the ability to reason and be cognizant of our surroundings.

As kids, we hear, Be safe! Probably millions of times during our childhood. Whether it’s from our parents or some fear mongering propaganda that we hear at school. But few of us. Really hear a clear, encouraging message saying the opposite, or at least encouraging intelligent consideration of something other than quote unquote safe.

Ask yourself, when was the last time you thought critically about what’s safe? It’s super timely to ask this question as a grown woman today as just about every corner of the world is being thunderclapped by the minute with fear porn. Whose measures are you using for what is safe? Is it your own? Is it the hand me down set of beliefs that your parents gave you?

Or what a neighbor said 5, 000 years ago that you never stopped to question. What is safe? As a grown ass woman whose eyes are open and who can think for herself, what is safe? Is it time to open up your definition of that? It’s insane to me how so much is being revealed daily about how we get manipulated, played, and fear bullied into not believing in ourselves and abdicating our inner guidance systems By people who profit from keeping us in a state of fear.

And, if it sounds like I’m energetically grabbing you by the shoulders and shaking you, it’s because I am. I see smart as fuck women with a parade of letters after their names that are using measures of quote unquote safety that have nothing to do with them. If anything, those old measures hamper their success when it comes to the shit that matters most.

Are you doing what you want, what your heart tells you, or are you playing it safe by someone else’s measure? A measure that is most likely rooted in lack, scarcity, limitation, and unworthiness. Think about that. You want to know what’s way better than safe? SMART! Not just smart, but smart as fuck. From my perspective, SMART takes YOU into account.

It is a calculus that looks at your uniqueness, includes The divine in you, the spark that put this desire in your heart to be a mom in the first place and is rooted in a belief that if there is a desire, then it means there must be a way to make it manifest here in the material world. Smart is about possibility.

It’s about calculated risk. The calculation resting heavily on faith and an openness to break out of the matrix of limitation, lack, and scarcity that is decidedly not divine. Being smart on this journey isn’t just about neck up intelligence. It’s about all the goodness that resides from the neck down.

Listen carefully to what I’m saying. We as human beings have been mocked, laughed at, called idiots for trusting our hearts and standing in faith by people who stand to gain from us being dumbed down, faithless sheep. I will never. Forget a conversation I had with Dr. Christian Northrup where we were wrapping a taste about how she did part of her residency at a Catholic hospital in Boston, where women were having babies on the regular at 44, 45, 46, 47, 48 and beyond.

Naturally, no one was telling these women that they were too old. When the seed of fear takes root, we completely eliminate the magic of our boundless human potential. So let’s take a look right now at how you might be defaulting to what is safe instead of what is smart. Keeping in mind the definition of smart that I’ve presented here.

Are you denying yourself options that can serve you just because someone else told you or you heard somewhere that that’s too expensive? Or you can’t dip into your savings because what if it rains? I mean, just as a side note, my response to that would be, what the hell are your savings for? It’s raining now, mofo, and you’re trying to get this baby here.

Get out of your rut and take some intelligent risks. And look, an intelligent risk does not necessarily mean a guarantee because in this life there are no fucking guarantees, mama! Now this applies, not just to the treatments or coaching you might do on this journey. It applies equally to the relationships in your life, both personal and professional.

Is it time that your partner really knew what was going on for you? Is it time that you quit playing it safe and be smart so you can tell them what you actually need so they have a fighting chance to be that for you? I’m gonna love you enough right now, mama, to tell you you are not being quote unquote safe when your partner doesn’t know the real you, doesn’t know what you truly need.

Hiding truth from your partner isn’t the smart play, it’s the chicken shit play. There’s nothing safe or smart about that. Is it time that they heard that you’re not down with the negativity or fucking penny pinching that has followed them from their family dysfunction and is now playing out in the family that the two of you are trying to build?

Is it high time that your partner knows that you aren’t gonna clean up their messes and they better step up and do better? Look, I’m not on some your partner sucks rampage. I just see lovably type A control freaky big hearted women. Every fucking day taking on the responsibility for everyone in their lives because they think that’s the safer option.

When this journey is exactly the time to allow yourself to receive. You, you, yes you, that are listening right now, you give so much every single day that for the love of all things holy, get smart and tell people around you what you need. It might be smart to run and hide if a bear is chasing you, but not so on this journey.

So let me ask you, is safe? Really that fucking smart? Is safe just putting you on the merry go round of unfulfilled dreams and agony over chances not taken? Is safe going to damn you to a life of mediocrity so that Gus shakes his head thinking, Woman, I put opportunity all around you and you refuse to see it!

Chew on that! It is more often than not the risks that we didn’t take that we regret the most. Just let that sit for a second. I bet there’s a shit ton of stuff that you look back on your life right now that you just wish you did. You wish you hadn’t been so scared. You wish you had taken the leap. You wish you had done the thing.

Don’t let this journey be a casualty of that old, quote unquote, safe, boring, stodgy, get you nowhere thinking. Think about every woman you’ve heard on this podcast. In fact, you know what, love? When we’re done here, go back and pick any episode with one of my ladies. Each and every blessed one of them took a leap.

They bet on themselves, they made the investment, they took the trip, they said hell yes, they told their partner the truth, they turned out the naysayers, they made their desire more powerful than their fear, they chose to be smart. Will there be times when SAFE is actually smart? Yes, of course. But when you have spent way too many days in SAFE?

You know it. You aren’t moving forward, your results aren’t changing, you feel the life being sucked out of you. You repeat the same old patterns of fear and doubt. The coolest thing about smart is you develop a level of trust in yourself so that the fear begins to drop away. When you’re smart on this journey, you can trust your decisions.

You know that when you say you’re going to do something, you will. Smart, at least in my definition, is about integrity. Safe is about fear. Worrying about what other people think and living by someone else’s rules. When you really consider this, you’ll see the distinction and understand why so many people get stuck in SAFE and never make it to the victory that comes from being smart.

SAFE equals a life of quiet desperation, as Thoreau says. SMART is in alignment with the highest. SMART is about a life of expansion and possibility. If your saboteur is kicking right now as you hear this and saying, That idiot, pink and blue haired former prosecutor, best selling author, coach, who physicians, nurses, teachers, engineers, business owners, and all around kick ass women from around the world go to when they want to be successful is just wanting you to be reckless.

Answer that bitch by putting all my ladies interviews on repeat. Put my YouTube channel up on your TV and tell that bitch she doesn’t know what she’s talking about because my ladies and I are living proof that there is a huge difference between safe and smart. Use that brain of yours to your advantage, mama.

Be better than safe. Be smart. Hey ladies, it’s Asher. Be smart. My mom’s right. I love you. Bye! I love it when my boy sneaks in. Wants to be on the podcast. Gotta love him. So loves, here’s an exercise to take what I’ve shared here with you to the next level. Are you playing it safe? Or are you being smart?

Step one, take an honest look at the way you’ve been living your fertility journey up to this point. Be honest. Have you been playing it safe or are you being smart? Notice what comes up for you as those words hit your tympanic membrane. As we have discussed, safe isn’t necessarily smart. Remember what I just taught you in this episode.

You’ve got to be willing to see past, quote unquote, safe. Particularly if you aren’t getting the results you really want. Awareness is the first step to having a breakthrough. Are you playing it so safe that you’re bored to tears with your life as you live this journey? The answer is a simple yes or no.

Don’t overthink this. The answer is in your heart right now. Don’t act like you don’t know. The question is, are you willing to face the truth? There is a point when safe is downright stupid. And you know, you know. Step 2. Identify where you need to shake shit up. Where you have to stop playing it so safe.

Where it’s about time. Are you telling the same old boring ass story of woe? Are you still surrounding yourself with people that think you’re fucking nuts for being on this journey? Are you and your partner still having the same arguments you’ve had for the past two years and not a goddamn thing has changed?

Where is it time to take some fucking calculated intelligent risks? And remember, that’s not the same as, as a guarantee. Okay, calculated risk is, there’s still risk involved. There’s no such thing as a guarantee in this life. It’s about taking risks that feel exciting and frankly overdue. And once you’ve identified some shit that you want to do, go fucking do it.

And step three. Text the link to this podcast episode to someone you think could benefit from it. Screenshot this episode and put it in your Facebook or Insta story tagging me. Share the shit out of this. And while you’re at it, Take a moment to give us a five star review. It will make you feel so good to show your gratitude for all this free content.

My team and I share with you every week. Luff, it’s game time. This new year is in full swing and you got to make a choice here and now. Are you gonna play it safe or are you gonna do some mega shit this year that could change the trajectory of your fucking life? Every woman you have heard and will hear on this podcast all started on the path to victory on this journey by making a choice.

It didn’t matter if she was a physician, lawyer, engineer, nurse, artist, healer, or business leader. She made a decision and That she was going to be different. She was going to stop being a victim. She was going to stop living her journey in constant nagging fear, never feeling worth the good that she desired.

And she sure as hell was no longer going to live under the tyranny of lack and scarcity. Mama, what could happen for you if you did the same? Just think about Dr. Maria from last week’s episode. When she stopped playing it quote unquote safe, she got smart and was able to see with her own eyes that she could do IVF, not give up her love of skiing and have a fucking beer, then have her precious baby boy 38 weeks later!
