If you had approached me 10 years ago talking about “sisterhood,” on this journey, I would have laughed in your face and told you to take your airy-fairy BS elsewhere.
Fiercely independent, terrified of anyone finding out I was “failing,” and grossed out by the Bedlam of desperation online, I told myself I didn’t need community.
But, the truth was, I longed to be seen, heard, and held by other strong women who really GOT my pain.
Not women who pretended to understand.
Not women who pitied me. (FUCK THAT.)
And, definitely not “Babydust678910” from some random fertility message board that sanctimoniously hands out advice, then Ghosts you when her pregnancy ship comes in. (I made that handle up. Any resemblance to actual persons living or dead, or actual events, is purely coincidental.)
I dreamt of having a circle of high-vibe, fertility ride or die bitches, that wouldn’t tolerate victimy self-pity, but knew when to let me blubber for a minute, and most importantly, would never leave a sister behind.
Of course I had my girlfriends, BUT…they had no experience with this journey.
Of course I had my amazing husband…but he’s a GUY. (Expecting a man to give you the kind of support you can only get from other chicks is ridiculous.)
I used to think the kind of women I desired to surround myself with were unicorns…rare, mystical creatures existing only in the mist of my imagination.
Rare? Yes. Figment of my imagination? No. They are very real.
I just needed the courage and opportunities to SEE them–so, I got the courage, AND seized the opportunities.
Before long, I found myself running with a small herd of Alpha-Female unicorns who really got it…and, most importantly, GOT ME.
The impact on my results was dramatic. Having the right people around you can make a bullet-proof mindset easy and your triumph inevitable.
No successful woman is an island.
